WelcomeThe decision to engage in therapy is highly personal, even if you have been in counseling before. It is critically important to find the "right" therapist for you. I offer free 15 min phone consultations to help decide if you want to take that first step into therapy with me. And throughout our work I'll be checking in with you to ensure that our work feels meaningful, productive, and that you feel safe.
Therapy can not only help you realize that you are not alone, but also provides valuable tools that puts you on the path of healing; it takes courage and I will be here to support you through the journey. |
Philosophy
Trauma does not discriminate and does not occur in a vacuum. It can happen to anyone no matter their circumstances and within a broader socio-political context. I work primarily with those who have complex trauma and PTSD, who have multiple traumas throughout their life, and who have targeted identities. I cannot imagine doing trauma therapy without talking openly about systemic oppression, culture, and identity. Fortunately, there are also treatments that can help. In my 20 years of experience, I have born witness to the incredible resilience of individuals who have experienced trauma and firmly believe that recovery is possible. The Japanese art of Kintsukuroi (or "broken repair") takes pottery that has been broken and repairs them with precious metals. The result transforms the objects beyond their original design and purpose into art; both strengthened and made more beautiful by the parts that were broken. The breaks are not something to be hidden or avoided, but rather become part of the object's history. The scar is seen as a unique piece of the object's history, which adds to its beauty. Trauma is never "okay" and there is no "silver lining". We can never erase or forget our experiences, but with healing and the innate strength one has, we can be transformed into something beautiful. |
